Much as I'm enjoying Brad's run on JLA, I'm quite happy with it being a temporary thing. Too long a run and you risk writing for the sake of coming up with the next issue, not because you have something you want to write about. At least we know with these 12 issues that it's the story Brad wants to tell. Although if he finds another 12 issues in him after that, I wouldn't complain. The biggest trick is getting someone else onto the book who's going to be able to pick up where Brad left off and really run with it - which has often been the problem with Justice League books. |

I'd love to stay -- and they offered it to me long ago -- but I always know it would be a too short romance. |

The interesting thing about a new writer on a team book is that they are likely to have their own cast they wish to be in the book to tell the storys they want to tell. After a 6 issue build up to the current team, we could be in for a new roll call when the new writer takes over. The team started with 7, growing over time to 10 and then 12 members. Metamorpho and then later Black Lightning turned down membership. Gerry Conway maintained the then current JLoA team for about 5 years, only adding slightly to the cast during that time. The Giffen years were a time of the League constantly changing members. Dr Light II leaves, Booster joins. Dr Fate and Shazam leave to be replaced by Capt Atom and Rocket Red. Black Canary left followed by the arrival of Fire and Ice. Metamorpho signs up when the team expands across two locations and two books. Jurgens shuffled the deck again, adding Superman and Maxima to the mix. Then the Ray II. Zero Hour rearranged the membership once again. Now we have a team, training of younger heroes, and a preemtive strike group across 3 books. Morrison returned the team to its roots, but quickly expanded the team. Then he took it apart and rebuilt it after the first 15 issues. Towards the end of his 41 issue run, guest stars appeared galore. Best part membership wise? Plastic Man finally brought into the ranks. And we got a real angel on the side of the angels. Kelly gave us a new "B" for backup plan team. Manitou Raven, a send up to Apache Chief of the SuperFriends arrived. Meltzer brings in Black Lightning. About time to those of us who've been reading since he first turned it down. With DC changing who is inside the costume for so many hereos lately, and DC purposely bluring the distinctions between the generations, who knows who will be available for membership in the JLA when the next writer steps in. |

Superfriend - thanks for the extensive recollection of all of the JLA's membership changes. I hope the current membership stays as is when the new writer takes over with only a few additions(i.e. Zatanna, Dr. Light, & Flash). |

Yeah, it'd be lame if New Writer came on and engineered a crisis (of sorts) to get his own team. If I'm Dan Didio, I'm saying, "Gimme a pitch for THIS team. Not yours. But do you guys think it'd be better for storytelling if a new writer would change the teams? |

If the new writer was to come in and like you say 'engineer a crisis' so he could have his team I'd drop the book straight away, this team hasn't--and won't have been given a good run by the time the new writer comes on, there's no reason why the new writer can't add a couple of members, but leave the current team as the core for a good while longer yet. |

One option is to expand the roster, and then use a subset of the team for each adventure. |
