After reading the interview with Dwayne Mc Duffie on Newsarama, I'm a little nervous about the future of the JLA line-up. In his interview, he makes it sound like he will down-size the JLA and replace Hal Jordan with John Stewart. First off, the team has only officially been together for 3 issues. It's a little soon to get rid of anyone. Secondly, Hal is the perfect addition to the Trinity. To take him out of the team again would leave a hole that Stewart would struggle to fill. Don't get me wrong, I like John but he's no Hal. Maybe we'll get lucky and both Hal and John will be on the team and rotate missions. |

I'm concerned about that too, just one thing, I don't want John Stewart in the JLA, we had him for years in JLA and all those years i wished to have Hal, and now we have him thanks to Brad, I hope they don't change that. If they change the roster like by adding characters ok( except Stewart)but don't take off characters, especially Hal, or Vixen, she's my favorite. |

I don't understand the infatuation with Hal Jordan, he's cookie cutter hero and every time someone tries to give him a personality (ie Emerald Dawn or Parallax) the fanboys piss and moan till it's retconned. John's got his righteous indignation, Kyle's got his artistic expression, Kilowog's the hard ass, even Guy's obnoxiousness makes him stand out. Hal's got... what? |

I got the impression from reading the interview that John Stewart would be added, but not that we were losing anyone. The team only has 11 members, plenty of room for a few more. |

Hal has plenty of things that qualify him for the league. He has the qualifications and plenty of experience. He also represents the hero that went too far and came back. Hal's the flyboy. Also, since his death, he kind of represents the old guy of the team. I think it was either him or Ollie and with the Roy on the team there is no need for Ollie. He's also had plenty of beef with Batman and the butting of head is always fun to watch. As for the team...I think that it can be expanded. But two green lanterns? I don't know. WIth all the talk of redundent characters I wonder what the drive is to have Hal and John on the same team. (Green Lantern Corps excluded) |

If you are merely looking at redundant powers: Superman covers Wonder Woman and Flash and Red Tornado (and Fire and Ice) Martian Manhunter was on the team with both Superman and Plastic Man. Hawkman and Hawkgirl served together. |

John is clearly a favorite of Dwayne McDuffie's which is why he was in the JL cartoon. |

True. And Hal does have his own title and John doesn't. But I still think it's bad form to change a team so quickly. Play with the characters a bit and hold off on automatically changing the team into what you desire. I know I appreciate it when a writer continues a team for a while longer. I take it as a form of showing respect to the past writer. Brad deserves that after all the hard work he put into the league. |

Porter, That's a two edged sword. That kind of thinking could have forced Brad to use a team HE was not interested in using. The last writer of the team, Joe Kelly introduced Major Disaster, Faith and Manitou Raven/Dawn. Should Brad have been required to use them becuase they didn't get "enough" face time before his run ended? Personally, I think the real question is, should you be able to use the characters you want? |

DC's response: Yes, unless you're Keith Giffen and JM DeMatteis. |

Well, in that case, DC was "repositioning" Superman, Flash, and Wonder Woman and wanted them free of other books. Most of us think it turned out ok. |

Actually, I was referring to DC offing the Superbuddies/JLI. |

oh. I thought you were referring to the fact that when DC gave Kieth the JLA he thought he was going to use the big names and only after agreeing found out he could not use 3 of them. |

I see where you are coming from, but I think that the continuity issue doesn't really apply to Brad. He reformed the league after it split up. And the issues numbering started over. He was given the thumbs up for a clean start. If he was picking up the title from another writer and the team wasn't split, then I think that a complete change, even though I love Brad's writing, would be too abrupt. Sure make a few changes. For example, with the Sinestro Corp starting I can see how Hal could be pulled away to handle the situation. So you have one change. But to create a whole new team? Minimal changes are ok, but complete turnarounds (for me) create hickups in the overall story. |
